Scams Targeting UClimb Ltd – update March 2024
At UClimb Ltd, we provide SEO services, build websites, and manage PPC campaigns, along with many other digital marketing services aimed at growing and promoting our client’s businesses.
We have been made aware of a group of overseas individuals who have set up a number of mimic websites, mostly with “app” somewhere in the domain. These include logos and other assets stolen from our website. The appropriate UK authorities have been notified to take the websites down, and at the time of writing this article, they seem to have been successful.
If you have been the target of a fraud or would like to learn more about the types of scams going on, the Metropolitan Police website contains a wealth of information, or if scams come through via email, you could try doing what we did and simply forward them to report@phishing.gov.uk – a really quick and effective way to help the UK government track and prevent the activities of online criminals.
Claims For Money Lost
Related to the websites above, some of the individuals are claiming they have lost money with us – they are all from abroad and have never had any dealings with our company.
Fake Google Reviews
The latest tactic is adding fake reviews and complaints to our Google profile – these have all been reported and Google has taken some down already. We have been advised that the criminals are likely to next approach us offering to take down these fake reviews if we pay them money – which we have no intention of doing, as it would only encourage this type of identify theft and online crime.
How to Distinguish Genuine Emails and Websites from UClimb
In the event you are contacted by one of the individuals in this scam, they may point you to websites or emails that are not genuine. UClimb Ltd wholly owns the uclimb.co.uk domain, and our website (i.e. the one you are on now) is the only genuine one. Any emails from our team can be identified by having @uclimb.co.uk at the end.
