Why do I Need a Google Analytics GA4 or Google Search Console Account?
To help monitor your website, we have set up a Google Analytics (GA4) account, and a Google Search Console (GSC) account. These are free accounts, and will give you all the data you need to see what people are searching when they find your website, and how much traffic etc you are getting.
To give you access to these accounts, we need an email that is associated with a google account.
How Do I Know if I Have an Email Linked to a Google Account?
Any email can be associated with a google account, but we will check the normal email address we use for you, and can tell if it is linked to a Google Account. When we try to give it access to GA4 or GSC, it will not allow us to proceed if the email is not linked to a Google Account.
You can also test this yourself. Simply google “GA4 login” and it should take you to this page: https://analytics.google.com/analytics/attribution/onboarding . Now enter your email address and press next. If there is no google account connected it will tell you so. If it asks for a password, then it must have found a Google account associated.
If you have a gmail email address, this will be linked. If you use a chrome browser, and have “signed in” this means you must have created an account, and this account will have an email address assigned to it.
If you decide to create a google account, it will tend to suggest that you create a new gmail email address – this is optional, our preference is to link it to an existing email address that is already in use, to save having too many email addresses. This is possible, but not always obvious.https://analytics.google.com/analytics/attribution/onboarding
When to Start Viewing GA4 or GSC Data
There is no rush to set up access, as both platforms will gather data without any input from us, and our team has access to both accounts.
Once you do have access, and have a spare 15mins, you can book a zoom call with us and we will gladly show you how to see what is going on. Just contact us via the contact page, and we will send you a link to our calendars, and you can pick a time that suits you.
For high-traffic websites, we suggest you should be logging in and having a look around within one week of launch – unless we are already doing this for you as part of our SEO support package. For low-traffic/hobby websites, we suggest waiting 1-2 months after launch, as by then there should be a reasonable amount of data collected to view and talk about.
